Thanks to everyone who tool the time and trouble to enter our competition. We received a large number of entries from people of Irish descent from the Orkney Islands in the North to Basingstoke in the South.

The judges weren’t able to pick an overall winner but the five pieces below, listed in the alphabetical order by writer’s name, have been chosen to be recorded.
